Uses

Visual Studio Code is my code editor of choice. I was a die-hard Sublime Text fan before and even bought a license with my own money. So suffice to say I went kicking and screaming over to VS Code, but honestly I can’t imagine going back.

• Night Owl (Dark) has been my theme of choice for many years now. I occasionally switch things up, but this one is a staple — it’s even made it into my Obsidian theme.
• If you’re looking for another option, the Cobalt2 Workspace Theme was a favorite of mine for many years too. Highly recommended!

iTerm2 is my terminal of choice.

• oh my zsh with the powerlevel9k theme is what I use instead of bash — the overall experience is more enjoyable and makes everything visually pleasing to look at.
• starship cross-shell prompt brings it all together into the perfect minimalist setup for my terminal.

IBM Plex Mono is my current font of choice — I do a lot of teaching, and removing the ligatures helped reduce confusion. That said, Operator Mono still has a special place in my book. Yes, I was crazy enough to pay $200 for it — my rationale was that I’d be staring at it for hours on end, so if I loved it, it would be worth it. And it was.

• 1Password is my password manager of choice. Worth every penny — I’m never going back to a password-manager-less life!
• Obsidian is my note-taking app of choice, and will probably continue to be so for a long time.
• Keyboard Maestro is an incredible tool for creating custom macros so you can get even faster with your keyboard. Combining it with Karabiner-Elements lets me create an array of scoped shortcuts with the hyper key (Cmd + Alt + Ctrl + Shift simultaneously).
• Fantastical 2 is my calendar tool of choice — its natural-language parsing makes adding events effortless, and it’s lovely to look at when juggling multiple calendars.
• Dropbox is my cloud-sync tool of choice. I tried alternatives from Amazon and Microsoft, but the experience was rough — crashes with no explanation built up enough distrust that I came back to Dropbox.
• Rocket is the emoji picker you always needed. It’s macOS-only, but you can summon the emoji selector with a hotkey for a Slack/Discord-like experience in any app — and exclude apps you don’t want it to trigger in.
